Green Energy Resources plan under BP technical review; oil-soaked chips would be burned by power plants for energy

Green Energy Resources said May 17 that its woodchips are under “technical review” by BP for use in the Gulf of Mexico oil spill cleanup. The review, the release said, is being conducted “both in Florida, where Green Energy has been activated to deploy, and in Louisiana at the BP command center overseeing operations.”

Green Energy’s plan entails utilizing woodchips inside the booms to absorb and collect oil, skim them off the top and deliver them to power plants to be burned as energy.

The company said it expects an update “soon” from BP.

Green Energy, formerly New York International Log & Lumber Co., identifies itself on its website as “a green bio-energy supply company, dedicated to preserving world forests, not cutting them.”

The company makes biomass from waste, such as tree pruning, tree blow-downs from storms, and waste left from logging operations.

So how does one submit alternative response technology, services or products to BP for use in the Gulf spill cleanup? According to BP’s website for the “Incident Command Centre” at Houma, Louisiana, call 281 366-5511.

Green Energy recently moved operations to San Antonio, Texas and is operational in both its new offices and its Corpus Christi field operation.
