Technology Review: Disaster exposes overreliance on blowout preventers & DrillingAhead.com: Interview of survivor of Transocean rig explosion

The May 4 edition of MIT’s Technology Review carries an article by Peter Fairley that criticizes the oil and gas industry for “overreliance” on blowout preventers, the “primary line in defense against deepwater oil spills.”

In fact, blowout preventers are the LAST line of defense in onshore AND offshore wells.
Still, the article is a good read and carries worthwhile information related to the Deepwater Horizon catastrophe in the Gulf of Mexico.

We also recommend this video slideshow and radio interview of a survivor of the Transocean rig explosion on the DrillingAhead.com website.

DrillingAhead.com is a social network of oil and gas professionals. The interview transcends special interest propaganda and offers valuable information for anyone, no matter what their opinion on offshore drilling.
