ECO-SEX ... Yep! Green is everywhere, including your bedroom, if you so wish. Author Stefanie Iris Weiss has ‘gone there’ with "Eco-Sex: Go Green Between the Sheets and Make Your Love Life Sustainable". From the product description on Amazon: "renew your passion for the environment while you recharge your love life—with green sex toys, low-impact lingerie, fair-trade condoms, bamboo bed linens, conflict-free diamonds, and much more." Okay, I know it's screaming 'gimmick' but it’s actually received solid reviews from top newspapers across the country. Buy it, or check out the author's website for even more info. Don't be shy, it is tempting.

NFL CLEANS UP ... Okay, not really. But Jean-Michel Cousteau, Troy Aikman, and Drew Bledsoe are partnering up, and it's not the hottest, new adventure-sports reality show. Cousteau, an environmentalist and president of Ocean Futures Society, has been supporting Ecosphere Technologies' new water treatment system built specifically to remove oil and chemicals from seawater. Aikman and Bledsoe are Ecosphere investors. Those in the know give Ecosphere credit for being one of the most field-proven systems on the market. Long-time Aikman fans, I mean, environmentalists, can check out his interview here.
LARRY KING OIL-A-THON ... So it looks like the Larry King show will be hosting a two-hour telethon on June 21, 8-10 P.M. ET on CNN called “Disaster in the Gulf: How You Can Help”. Viewers donating can choose one of three charities to direct their cash to: United Way’s “Oil Spill Recovery fund”, The Nature Conservancy’s “Fund for Gulf Coast Restoration”, and The National Wildlife Federation’s “Gulf Oil Spill Restoration Fund”. There's some major celeb backing here too (finally!) including Tim McGraw, Ted Danson, Chelsea Handler, Robert Redford, Harry Connick Jr., Kathy Griffin, Jenny McCarthy, Melania Trump, Ivanka Trump, Sting, Aaron Neville, Kerry Kennedy, James Carville and Mary Matalin, Anderson Cooper, Alyssa Milano, Deepak Chopra, Pete Wentz, Tyson Ritter, Lenny Kravitz, Ian Somerhalder, Jack Hanna, Sammy Kershaw and Philippe Cousteau. Alec Baldwin will not be participating after being quoted saying 'Let BP die', a bit hostile for live television. Will you tune in and donate?
POROUS 'GREEN' STREETS ... Salem, Oregon's Pringle Creek Community, a housing development that has gotten national praise, uses a system of porous streets. Porous pavement has been around since the 1970s, but costs more than traditional road systems. Basically it's regular asphalt with the smallest particles removed, allowing the vast majority of liquid that hits the pavement to pass through. Most importantly, it allows 90 percent of stormwater to infiltrate back into the ground. Standard pavement, in contrast, is known to lead to more polluted waterways, more frequent and severe flooding, loss of natural storage capacity in plants, wetlands, and soil, and reduced groundwater recharge. And don't worry, it holds up as well as or better than traditional asphalt; a test street in North Portland demonstrated that porous streets can hold up to regular city traffic. Leave it to Oregon to lead the way!

GREENING OFFICER ... The General Services Administration, whose mission is to "foster an effective, sustainable, and transparent government for the American people" has named Eleni Reed its chief greening officer. Reed will oversee green building programs and strategies across GSA’s inventory of 9,600 owned and leased facilities. GSA is a complex organization offering a breadth of services to businesses in all sectors. It's worth checking it out, especially since it's actively greening up its act.
TRACK YOUR FOOTPRINT APP... National Clean Fuels has acquired a new breakthrough smartphone app under development that is designed to allow users to reduce their carbon footprint and fossil fuel energy consumption. The app is called "UseThisNotThat", and will provide localized guidance to users on how to select energy efficient "green" options to replace fossil fuel products and reduce their carbon footprint. Users will be searching for electricity and entering in their zip code to get results for the 'greenest' companies in their area. The product searches will also provide feedback as to which brand of laptop uses the least amount of fossil fuels to manufacture or even which brand of hairspray is made with clean energy. The app will initially be available for the iPhone, Android, Blackberry and Facebook. The company's website is a bit dull, so I suggest keeping an eye out for the new app, I'm sure they won't let you miss it.
EFFICIENCY COOLS DOWN ... The National Renewal Energy Laboratory is developing an energy efficient air conditioner called the DEVap (Desiccant-Enhanced eVaporative). The system uses an evaporative cooler, which creates cool air by evaporating water from a wet surface with a fan, and combines the cooler with a dessicant to make dry air. I know little about AC living in Alaska but the bottom like is this: the system eliminates the need for harmful chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) or hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) used in refrigerant-based air conditioners. And I will say, being unaccustomed to it, I notice a difference in my breathing when I'm immersed in AC, almost feels like the start of a chest cold. So kudos to NREL for eliminating unnecessary chemicals wherever possible. Expect the product to be out in 3-5 years. And hot on its heels? Solar-powered air conditioners are also in the works.
