Readers, we have not yet received Abdulla's Day 10 log. Perhaps, the storm that was brewing during his last communication has interfered. But we have something new for you. We had missed posting this video, which is a special message from the 2041’s leader Robert Swan and the Shell team, recorded in Ushuaia before the expedition left for Antarctica.

What is a good program to play this type of file? Windows Media could not open it.

Baxter, the file is an FLV file, it can be played with any number of free video software players.  One is http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

FLV files seem more compatible with more systems across the board, and are also easily embeddable on websites etc . . . which is why we usually format the files in flv instead of MPEG4 (which I believe is what Windows Media plays).

Please let me know if you continue to experience any problems with the video - I am not sure if you sent the file out or have it posted, but if it is posted on your blog somewhere, it should automatically play from the web browser window.  If it doesn't, the error message should tell you why the browser window won't load the meda - it might have something to do with your browser settings.

Karsten, I don't think any wells have been drilled there, which would tell them for sure, but the geology doesn't look very promising for oil or gas. Also, would be very expensive to extract. Not worth the risk to the environment.

Charlie, at this point we're aiming for about 20 minutes discussion per day. However, teachers can certainly expand particular discussion topics to projects that include short stories, essays, quizzes, etc. on animals, habitats and climate based on grade level. I've petitioned our readers, especially teachers, students and parents for suggestions and advice. Please share with your friends colleagues who may have some feedback - I'm thrilled to see your interest!
